Some reunions feel like stepping back in time; others feel like hitting fast-forward and discovering who everyone has become. The Class of ’89 reunion was the latter—a vibrant mix of nostalgia and new stories.
The Golfers, the Storytellers, the Legends
July 24 at Ewa Golf Club wasn’t just a round of golf—it was a reunion of personalities. Kevin Suehiro returned from Osaka with new tales, Mike Plumb defended his title like a legend, and George Pusins… well, let’s just say his “lucky shots” have become part of reunion lore. It was clear: Class of ’89 doesn’t just play golf—they play life with flair.
Giving Back, Reminders of Home
On July 25, Vivian (Lee) Arita and a few classmates refurbished our class gift—two planters outside the Father Bray Athletic Complex. Later, Colleen (Young) Teramae, Chad Ito, and Jason Masaki hosted a movie and game day for kids at Kapiolani Medical Center. The energy, the smiles, and the shared laughter reminded us that the Class of ’89 is not just about memories—it’s about impact.
Nights to Remember
The evening at Rumours Night Club brought out our more playful sides. 80s music, friends we hadn’t seen in decades, and a few absurd debates (Kei Sato vs. four marines!) made the night unforgettable. For many, the evening ended before midnight, but some legends kept it going—like John Matsumoto and his cab story that became instant folklore.
Looking Back and Ahead
July 26 brought us back to the “new” campus for a reflective afternoon. Dean Ishida’s slideshow captured 20 years in 16 minutes: smiles, tears, and stories that remind us why we belong together. The week closed with the Headmaster’s Reception and A Touch of Iolani—moments that were as much about connection as celebration.
Even after twenty years, the Class of ’89 proves that friendship isn’t measured by time—it’s measured by laughter, shared stories, and the ability to feel at home again in a single weekend.
We may leave the halls behind, but they never leave us.
